Iceland Arena in Mississauga

Tonight Team China played one of Ontario finest OWHA team – The Mississauga Chief at Iceland Arena in Mississauga. Although this is the second time these two teams meet on the ice but this is a first time they are playing to a capacity crowd since they arrived and have all their practice game here in Ontario. Approximately twelve hundred local residences were on hand to cheer the teams.

Mississauga most popular Mayor Hazel McCallion who was a strong supporter of the Ontario Women Hockey Association was on hand with the Consul General of P. R. China in Toronto Madam Zhu Taoying to drop the puck for the face off.

Tonight success was in part the relentless effort by Mayor Hazel, Mr. Victor Oh and especially the hard work of Ms. Fran Rider President Ontario Women’s Hockey Association to show the Chinese Olympic team the Canadian hospitality and Olympic spirit.

Ice hockey is played in only Northern China. Although hockey is a relative new sport to the Chinese they have come a long way to have an Olympic team. Tonight game will be a great experience for these players to see the challenges against one of Ontario best team the Mississauga Chief. Unfortunately, Team China was unable to capitalized on their skill against the much more experience Mississauga Chief losing 4 to 1.

After the game the players were ushered to Emerald Chinese Restaurant in Mississauga for a tribute dinner for the Mayor of Mississauga organized by the Mr. Victor Oh and Mississauga Chinese Business Association. Minister of Labor Hon. Peter Fonseca who during the 1990s was Canada’s leading marathon runner and represented Canada in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and Hon Bob Delaney - MPP Mississauga-Streetsville also attended the diner.

CCGA Chinese New Year Gala

Unlike western calendars, the lunar Chinese new year calendar has names that are repeated every 60 years. Within the 'Stem-Branch' system is the shorter cycle of 12 years denoted by animals:

2010 is the Chinese year of the Tiger. In particular, this is the year of Gēng-yín 庚寅 (Metal Tiger). Gēng is the seventh of the ten celestial stems and Yín (Tiger) is the third of the twelve terrestrial branches, thus February 14th 2010 marks the year of the Tiger with its association to bravery.

This year the Canadian Chinese Golfers Association celebrate Chinese on January 30thth 2010 at the Garden Banquet & Convention Centre, 8 Clipper Court, Brampton. Close to four hundreds guests and friends attended the gala.

Ushering The Tiger at Square One

February 14th 2010 may be Valentine day for most Canadian but to the Chinese in Mississauga, they will be ushering the year of the Tiger as they celebrate the Chinese New Year. On January 23rd 2010 Square One shopping center started the ball rolling by celebrating the coming of the Chinese New Year in the centre court near the main food court. On hand was Mayor Hazel McCallion and Ward 9 Councillor Pat Sato to help usher in the year of the Tiger.

Btrust Last Lucky Draw on Dec 19th 2009

Today a huge crowd gather at Btrust Supermarket to witness a lucky prize draw. This Saturday, December 19, 2009, at around 10:45 a.m. the City of Mississauga will host the Olympic Flame on its way to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Games. The event will take place at the north west side of Mississauga Civic Centre, on the Princess Royal and Living Arts Drive. At 9:30 a.m. in the morning all the VIP started arriving for their VIP breakfast in the Living Art Center.

Fujian Women Federation Visit

Novenber 17th 2009

This evening a group of six representatives form Fujian Province in China visited Canada and was officially welcome by the local United way representatives from Mississauga. This meeting was organized by the cosular general from China in Toronto and Mr. Victor Oh from SafeCity Mississauga.

Today mark a new chapter in the Chinese Canadian trade with the grand openning of Hans Gronhi Graphic Technology, Canada, Inc a fully owned subsidiary of HANS-GRONHI Graphic Technology Co., Ltd - a leading offset press manufacturer in China. On hand for the city of Mississauga was our beloved Mayor HAZEL McCALLION, C.M. and Ward 5 Councillor Eve Adams for the ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the dotting of the Northern Lion eyes.
