Chinese New Year Celebration at Erin Mill Town Centre January 21st. to 22nd. 2012

This year all Chinese will mark and celebrated Chinese New Year in January 23rd., 2012. Chinese calendar begin in 2697 B C under the Yellow King thus making this year 4709th year. As more and more Chinese move west of Toronto and started settling in Mississauga the Erin Mill Town Centre decided to help celebrate the New Year in the mall on January 21st. 2012. At the same time Square One in Mississauga also have the same celebration held near the food court.

Mayor Hazel took some time off her busy schedule to help the mall usher in the water dragon Chinese New Year and kick start the event in the mall by waking up the sleeping Northern Lion by dotting their eyes with Hon. Bob Dechert, Parliamentary Secrsetary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erindale as well as Hon. Harinder Takhar,  Minister of Government services and Member of Provincal Parliament  for Mississauga, Erindale. 

According to Chinese legend the Northern Lion's visit to the mall will bring in good fortune and prosperity to the mall.

KOFC Christmas party at Mississauga Open Door

Thursday December 15th 2011 at Open Door in Square One Shopping Center

In March 29th, 1882, thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. Today the Order is still hold true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

The Knights was organizeded to give financial aid to its members and their families. They also provided Mutual aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

Tonight the Knights of Columbus No: 12372 and the Mississauga Open Door jointly invited many of the Mississauga least fortunate to joint them for their Christmas party at the Open Door facility in Square One Shopping Centre.

Mississauga Chinese Business Association's annual Christmas Diner

Sunday December 11th., 2011

Every year the Mississauga Chinese Business Association gather its members and committe members to celebrate Christmas and joint force with the Peel Police force to to raise money and toys for the less fortunate in the region.

Mayor Hazel of Mississauga and a strong supporter of the assocation annually attend the diner and help raise fund for the Peel Police Toy run. This year the diner was held at Paradise Chinese Restaurant located at 4040 Creditview Road in Missisauga in Ward six riding.  So Mr. Ron Starr was on hand to show his strong support to the Mississauga Chinese Business Association for the huge contribution to the community services.

Councillor Chris Fonseca Family Skate outing

December 3rd 2011

On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca organized her first successful family skate fun which attract a lot of local residences to participate. . This is the first family skate fun organised by the first term Councillor for Mississauga's Ward 3. She hope to be able to meet as many as possible of her residences and a chance to explained to them the opportunity to voice the corcern regarding the municipal goverment.

Also on hand for the fun was Councillor's Chris Fonseca's husband Mr. Peter Fonseca the former Ontario Minister of labour and their two boys.

After a cold and tired skate out the participants were refreshed with energy rich cakes and hot chocolate drinks.

Meet and Greet the new AGM Curator & Director of Programmes

Mr. Stuart Keeler joined the Art Gallery of Mississauga staff in September and he wants to hear what residence of Mississauga envision for the Mississauga arts scene. Along with tonight meet and greet Mr. Stuart Keeler has a series of initiatives already in progress to celebrate the Art Gallery of Mississauga's 25th Anniversary in 2012 and take the AGM into exciting new directions for the next 25 years and beyond.

However, this responsibility is not only for Mr. Stuart Keeler but for all the residences of Mississauga. The AGM belong to everyone in Mississauga and everyone has a share in the future of AGM.

4th Annual South Asian Award

The 4th Annual Midweek South Asian Awards gala was  presented by Aureus University, School of Medicine, and it  was held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the Grand Victorian Convention Centre at Radisson Hotel in Mississauga, to celebration of the accomplishments of  South Asian in Canada.

This year event was hosted by Mr. Jake Dheer, Rogers TV station manager, who shared his emcee role with Ms. Surbhi Guleria, host of Badhai Ho on Omni TV.  Also first for the event  was the appearance of Bollywood actress and former Miss India World, Ms. Sayali Bhagat, who flew in all the way from Mumbai to put up a live performance for the Midweek South Asian Awards event.
