Crowd celebrating Canada Day at
Mississauga Celebration Square
on July 1st. 2012
Canadian crowded the Mississauga Celebration Square on July 1st. 2012 to celebrate Canada's birthday. Althought, frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1st., 1867. Even thought Canada became a nation in its own right on that date, but Britian kept limited rights of political control over Canada that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.
Many communities across the country will host organized celebrations for Canada Day on July 1st., mainly outdoor public events, such as parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks, and free musical concerts, or carnival like festivals as many cities will also host citizenship ceremonies for new citizens. Unfortunately this year, the citizenship ceremony were absent in Mississauga.
However, Mississauga celebrate Canada’s 145th birthday at Mississauga Celebration Square with a dynamic lineup of free live performances including family friendly Puss in Boots Live, pop and tennage sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, and Juno Award winning electro-pop band Dragonette.
