Canadian crowded the Mississauga Celebration Square on July 1st. 2012 to celebrate Canada's birthday. Althought, frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday",  the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province  of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1st., 1867. Even thought Canada became a nation in its own right on that date, but  Britian kept limited rights of political control over Canada that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.

Many communities across the country will host organized celebrations for Canada Day on July 1st., mainly outdoor public events, such as parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks, and free musical concerts, or carnival like festivals as many cities will also host citizenship ceremonies for new citizens. Unfortunately this year, the citizenship ceremony were absent in Mississauga.

However, Mississauga celebrate Canada’s 145^th birthday at Mississauga Celebration Square with a dynamic lineup of free live performances including family friendly Puss in Boots Live, pop and tennage sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, and Juno Award winning electro-pop band Dragonette.

Brat Butt hosted the Queens Diamond Jubilee Awards on Wednestday June 27th 2012.

“I am honoured to be able to recognize these community leaders with the awarding of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal”. Mississauga: Today, Brad Butt, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville, hosted a ceremony where thirty deserving people were awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

“On this the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II becoming Queen of Canada, I am honored to host an event where we as the Government of Canada recognize citizens who, like Her Majesty, have devoted themselves to the betterment of their community and of Canada,” said MP Butt in a statement issued prior to the event.

The recipients were presented the medal in a ceremony hosted by MP Butt at the Streetsville Legion tonight. They were recognized because of their tremendous contribution either locally or for the betterment of Canada as a whole.

“We are blessed here in Mississauga-Streetsville to have so many devoted volunteers who work hard everyday to make our communities and country a great place to live, and I am honored to have the opportunity to present thirty of these deserving Canadians with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal,” said MP Butt.

About the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal:
In honor of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th anniversary of her accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, a new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canadians to honor Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honor significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. In 2012 the year of the Diamond Jubilee the Government of Canada will award the Diamond Jubilee medal to 60,000 Canadians.

Leaders of Tomorrow 2012

Sunday May 27th 2012 Living Art Centre, Mississauga.

In 2010 Mayor Hazel and Mr. Pierre Wong start up a challenge to woo Mississauga youth to excel as leaders of tomorrow. However, as we see today the youth not only meet the challenge but take upon themselves to to crusade their course. Todays, events is to honour those youths for their outstanding leadership and dedication to up the ente of youth leadership.

According to Pierre this summer they are gearing up to launch their summer youth moneywise and leadership programs with a series of seminars and urging this selected few leaders to proclaim the message to their peer. Althought the school are very apt to equipt our city youth to be schoolars but the business community are hoping to fine tune them as responsible moneywise future leaders.

Carassauga 2012 May 25th to 27th

This year Carassauga is unlike previous year where each pavilion held their own opening ceremonies. Unfortunately, like many previous year I was at the Hershey Centre / Sport Complex capturing the opening ceremony there with Mr. Jake Dheer as usual with his charm and wit stirred up the crowd to a wild joyous occassion thereby missing the rest of the pavilion opening ceremonies.

Words do not do justice to describe the excitment and experience you get when you travel to over sixty cultures and twenty six pavilions in three days. You have to visit them all to thrill yourself with the varity of cultures dances and display as well as taste the varity of foods each culture offers.

Although the pavilion are spread all over Mississauga, you do not have to trouble yourself driving around town and hunting for the near none or lone parking sport to enjoy the world of Carassauga because Mississauga transit were easily available to drive you around.

Free Public Education Forum on Vaginal Atrophy

For many women experiencing menopause, hot flashes, night sweats and disrupted sleep is a reality…but there is one significant symptom that is kept under the covers. Lesser known reality is that up to 75% of postmenopausal women are suffering from the symptoms of vaginal atrophy (VA).  Vaginal atrophy (VA) is a chronic condition, where the vaginal walls become thin, fragile and inflamed due to a reduction of estrogen.

It’s not common for women and doctors to discuss such symptoms, and yet there are effective treatments. That’s why Dr. Brown will be speaking at an educational public forum on May 15 in Mississauga, Ontario – Living Arts Centre, where a group of women are invited to learn about VA, and most importantly, learn how speaking to a doctor can improve their quality of life.

Women are invited to join Dr. Vivien Brown, MDCM, CCFP, FCFP, NCMP, NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner, Vice President, MEDISYS Health Group, Inc., as she says that it is normal for women to experience symptoms of VA such as itching, burning, irritation and painful intercourse, but that they are not symptoms often discussed.

The Mississauga Food Bank raises $100,000 at “A Night at the Warehouse” Fundraiser

Mississauga, ON April 25, 2012

Following last week’s successful event, “A Night at the Warehouse”, The Mississauga Food Bank is pleased to announce they raised $100,000 to feed those who are hungry in Mississauga.

This is the first time the charity has hosted their annual fundraiser in their 10,000 square foot distribution warehouse. 325 supporters attended the casual event featuring music by the Virgil Scott Band, a live and silent auction, and a buffet of soups and breads prepared and donated by local restaurants and bakeries.

Presented by the Tim Hortons Store Owners of Mississauga and sponsored by Mercury Mortgages, Mississauga Honda, Sam McDadi RE/Max and Rogers TV Mississauga, this event was a “one-of-a-kind” gala that allowed guests inside the warehouse where food for 2 million meals a year is sourced, sorted, stored and distributed.

Meghan Nicholls, the food bank’s director of marketing and fund development and the event’s organizer, said: “We are thrilled with the results of this event and the support we received from the community. It was a really fun night, and we loved hosting our guests in our warehouse among the boxes of food that feed our hungry neighbours.”

Mississauga Chinese Business Association Annual General Meeting and diner

This year the Mississauga Chinese Business Association held their annual general meeting at Summit Chinese Restaurant in Mississauga to introduce the new board of directiors and also to introduce their new members who have just joint the association.

Mr. Victor Oh the Honorary President of Mississauga Chinese Business Association, Chair of the SafeCity Mississauga and Chair of the Canada China Business Communication |Council presented  his recent trade missission trip to China with our Canadian Prime Minister Harper and his entourage.

The Mayor also has high praise for the Mississauga Chinese Business Association for their outstanding performance in getting the Chinese community to intergrate into our Canadian mosaic and coummunity.  She also praise the association for their long standing investment in community crime awareness program.  As report after report yearly had Mississauga on the forefront of Canada safest large city.

This annual general meeting also mark the first when Mississauga Chinese Business Association past director Mr. Harry Tam a constable with the Peel Regional Police force shave his head during the meeting to raise fund and awareness of Cancer.
