MCBA 8th Annual Policing Dinner Gala

On Thursday night, September 10th 2009 The Mississauga Chinese Business Association recognizes Peel finest and Mississauga citizens for their contribution making Mississauga a better place to live at a dinner gala at Emerald Chinese Restaurant. Annually two awards will be made during the dinner - The Community Policing Awards to outstanding members of the Peel Regional Police Service for their contribution to our community and the "Agnes and Anthony Wong" Memorial Award to the volunteers who also have contributed their time and efforts to improving our community. This is the Eight Community Policy dinner organized by the Mississauga Chinese Business Association and more than 400 peoples attended the function with many of the Peel Regional Police officers, OPP and military personnel in attendance. The purposes for this event is to build a closer relationship between the Peel Regional Police and the community of Peel Region. As such two of the Peel finest were seated at each table to enable them to mingle and chat with the community.

Hon. Bob Dechert MP for Mississauga-Erindale (the only Progressive Conservative MP in Mississauga and acknowledge by Mississauga beloved Mayor Hazel McCallion as the most hard working MP in Mississauga), Hon. Bonnie Crombie (MP for Mississauga-Streetsville), Hon. Navdeep Bains (MP for Mississauga-Brampton South), Hon. Bob Delaney (MPP for Mississauga-Streetsville and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Research and Innovation), and Councilor Ms. Pat Saito (Councilor for Mississauga Ward 9) was on hand for the award ceremony. Unfortunately, Mayor Hazel and Police Chief Mike Metcalf both have to make a late appearance due to a conflict with the Mayor annual Golf tournament that was held in the afternoon of Thursday September 10th 2009 and the dinner at 6:00 pm later that day. Nonetheless both the Mayor and the police chief felt the Eight Annual Community Policing Dinner Gala very important that they rush to show their support for the event.

Mr. Jake Dheer (station manager for Roger Mississauga) was the co-master of ceremony for the evening with Ms. Lillian Kwok the vice president of Mississauga Chinese Business Association.

This year the Community Policing awards goes to Constable Ashley Chmara and Constable Steven Lord. Both were also volunteer SafeCity Mississauga super heroes. While The Agnes and Anthony Wong’s awards goes to Mr. Ron Lenky and Mr. Francis Wong.
